Update Imac G3? Max OS X can be installed? How to install?
Hello,
My friend gave me his old iMac G3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMac_G3) and it’s not that great but i’ve always wanted a Mac, but they still have old info and files everywhere, and i hate the look, so i’m hoping that i can install a new OS.
I am led to believe OS X 9 is the max i can install, correct? Also how do i install? I have USB, DVD & CD, i’m pretty sure it’s a CD only reader.
Thanks, Danz207

It actually says up to 10.3.9, how do i install it? If i burn to CD will it boot up?
It is very old and so will be very limited in what you can do with it. Depending on the actual model you have you will be able to run Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) or Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) both of which are now dated and have little support. Mac OS 9 was the last Mac OS before the switch to the new Mac OS X. Support for Mac OS 9 (known as Classic) is built into Panther and Tiger.
If you find a suitable Mac OS installation disc just pop it in and double click on the Installer icon. Failing that you could install Linux on it if that is of interest.
